Stop.
Just stop for two seconds.
I know you’re probably doing that thing where your mind is running through a hundred different thoughts at once, and you’re so caught up in all the details that you can’t even think straight.
Well, maybe you’re not.
But a lot of the clients I speak with start snowballing into all the details and end up feeling overwhelmed by the question:
“How much Final Expense Insurance do I need?”
The reality is that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all number.
The right amount of Final Expense Insurance depends on your plans, your family, and the expenses you want covered.
What Final Expenses Do You Want Covered?
As I have shouted from the rooftops before, step away from the busy day.
Find a quiet place where you can truly sit with your thoughts for a few minutes.
Think about the people you love.
Think about the financial realities in your area.
Think about what you would want your family to experience during one of the hardest moments of their lives.
Now sit down with a pen and paper. I’m young old-school, and sometimes writing things down is still the best way to organize your thoughts.
Start with a few basic questions:
- Do you want a burial or cremation?
- Do you want a memorial service?
- Do you want to leave money for children or grandchildren?
- Do you have outstanding debts?
- Do you want your family to have extra financial breathing room?
For any services you’re considering, spend a little time researching options in your local area. Look at reviews, compare prices, and make sure the people handling your final wishes will do so with integrity and care.
The answers to those questions will start creating a list of expenses.
When you add those expenses together, you’ll have a much clearer idea of how much coverage you may want to consider.
Honestly, that’s one of the best starting points I can give anyone.
And if you’re not comfortable doing the research alone, don’t.
I’m more than happy to hop on a call and help you work through it. Sometimes it helps to have another person there to ask questions and make sure nothing important gets overlooked.
Final Thoughts on Understanding Final Expense Coverage Amounts
My aunt taught me a trick for checking whether spaghetti was done.
She would throw it against the wall, and if it stuck, it was ready.
Figuring out how much Final Expense Insurance you need doesn’t work quite the same way.
You can’t just throw a number at the wall and hope it sticks.
But you also don’t have to figure it out alone.
You can work through it with family, trusted friends, or someone who helps people navigate these conversations every day.
The important thing is creating a plan that feels right for you and the people you love.
Take care of it today so you can spend less time worrying about the “what ifs” and more time making memories, living life, and enjoying the people who matter most.
